The Holmewood School in North London is a specialist school for boys and girls with high-functioning autism, Asperger Syndrome and other language and communication needs. The school is NAS-accredited and founded on a desire to make a difference and to challenge the way all members of the community think about autism.
Ours is a warm and friendly school where we ensure our students get every opportunity to achieve their full potential in life. This commitment is an intrinsic part of our philosophy and is at the heart of everything we do.
We recognise that every student is different and, in addition to academic achievement, our focus is firmly on their social, emotional and personal development. This is supported by strengthening independence and life skills, which are key to building confidence and self-esteem.
The school offers a diverse range of on-site therapies, from Speech and Language Therapy to Drama Therapy, Lego Therapy and Reflexology. It also benefits from an Occupational Therapy Clinic which through sensory integration, behavioural and developmental support, helps to promote the teaching and learning of essential life skills.
Our curriculum is based on the belief that for an individual to benefit and learn from an activity, they should enjoy it and find it meaningful. Programmes are delivered on a 1:1 basis, in small groups, or as part of larger groups.
The School has recently opened a second site close-by exclusively for its Sixth Form students where they are able to practice their independent travel skills and are able to access further education programmes at local colleges or gain work experience through placements in local companies.
We are immensely proud of our school and our students and we are committed to its continuing success. If you’d like to see The Holmewood School for yourself, please contact us.
