Founded in 1939, More House School is an independent day and boarding school with more than 480 boys on roll, making it the largest specialist school of its type in the country. Many boys travel long distances to attend the school, which is currently used for placements by 30 local authorities.

We are dedicated to helping boys with a range of learning difficulties and styles, who require a small, supportive learning environment in which to flourish.

Our aim is to help each boy who joins us, achieve, in the widest possible sense, more than he, or his parents, ever expected. This is accomplished by knowing a great deal about each student - his strengths as well as his difficulties. For his strengths, he must first be helped to identify them and, eventually, change them into a marketable form. His difficulties will not be static. We are mindful that we must be alert to changes caused by a student's own development, those of society and by the curriculum and make sure that each of our students is equipped to meet them.

The Learning Development Centre (LDC) is a purpose-built area, housed centrally in the school, where all therapy is delivered by fully qualified therapists and specialist tutors. Almost all boys in the school attend lessons weekly for between 2 and 8 half hour sessions, with support continuing through GCSE and A level year where necessary. Attendance in the LDC forms part of each boy's timetable, removing any need to miss lessons.

The work of the Learning Development Centre is fully integrated into school life, with many staff being form tutors and mentors. The pooling of shared expertise within the inclusive staff body of the school - highly qualified Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Literacy Therapists, Numeracy Therapists, Cognitive Behavioural Therapists, Adolescent Psychotherapeutic Counsellor, as well as classroom subject specialist teachers experienced in supporting pupils with a broad range of learning difficulties.

Our recent Ofsted welfare inspection graded us Outstanding across all areas, stating "the residential special school provides highly effective services that consistently exceed the standards of good. The actions of the school contribute to significantly improved outcomes and positive experiences for children and young people".

More House School is a transformative experience for students and their families, our students' journey's will vary hugely from that of their mainstream peer group, but the end result will be the same. Academic success and a platform with which to move on to the next stage of their lives.
