At RNIB Sunshine House School we offer specialist support to blind and partially sighted children with significant learning difficulties and disabilities and their families.
With a range of specialist indoor and outdoor facilities, we provide a safe and supportive environment for children to meet their full potential.
We're part of a family of five local special schools with The Eden Academy, working together to offer your child access to an enhanced range of expertise, activities and resources.
Education and Curriculum
Everyone at Sunshine House is treated as an individual with their own specific needs and learning goals. Working together with parents and specialists we ensure that achievements go beyond the classroom into everyday life.
Our specialist school educates children and young people from two to 14 years who have a range of physical, learning and sensory needs. Children follow an individually tailored curriculum supporting their special education needs. Most children are working between P levels 1 and 8. Each class has no more than eight children with a minimum support ratio of two adults for every three children.
Therapies and Healthcare
Our team of in-house therapists combine their work with a child’s learning, making therapies a part of everyday school life. We also have a paediatric community nurse who ensures that all health needs are met.
Family services
You can get to know other parents and children and have fun through our thriving family services. Activities include after-school and holiday clubs, family events, sibling support groups, networking and advice for parents.
