Tram House School is an independent special school for pupils with autism aged 11 to 19, rated Good with Outstanding features by Ofsted.

Our fundamental belief is that every child and young adult has the potential to succeed and make a unique and significant contribution to society. We focus on understanding the journey that our pupils are on and the need to build their skills and understanding as far as possible, whilst equipping them with meaningful qualifications and the resilience to use these in their future lives.

Each of our pupils is provided with a truly personalised curriculum and supported by dedicated and passionate staff committed to Behaviour Analysis.

Our school community is vital to us and this is built on a trusting relationship with parents and carers, as well as extending into the local community as we develop meaningful learning experiences for our young adults as they move into their adult lives.

All staff at Tram House School are committed to the development of pupil safety and well-being and this is at the heart of all work that we do. In 2022, Tram House School was awarded the Wellbeing Award for Schools.

Our Sixth Form

Tram House Sixth Form enables children and young adults aged 16-19 to reach their next steps and gain independent skills within the community.

We develop individualised programmes that are responsive to pupils' needs empowering them to lead as independent a life as possible. The timetables cover literacy, numeracy and the four Preparation for Adulthood Strands: health and wellbeing, independent living, community participation and vocational and employment. Our link with South Thames College allows our pupils access to brilliant facilities and the potential to access accredited qualifications.

By providing just enough support, we aim to prepare our pupils for their lives after education.

Our teaching

Using behaviour analysis and guided by the science of Applied Behaviour Analysis and Verbal Behaviour, our teaching focuses on language development, particularly functional communication. We aim to develop learning, independent living skills and personal, social and emotional development. Our multidisciplinary team including Behaviour Analysts, Teachers, Occupational Therapists and Speech and Language Therapists ensure a well-rounded and relevant curriculum for all our pupils.

Working towards outcomes in a pupil's Education, Health and Care Plan, each learner is given a personalised Individual Education Programme which breaks down skills into achievable goals. Pupils are supported by a Teaching and Learning Practitioner whilst also attending group sessions which focus on academic skills.

We have a total communication approach and work with our learners to find the method of communication that is most effective for them. This may include speech, Makaton, picture exchange, Alternative Augmentative Communication or a combination of different approaches.
