New College Worcester (NCW) is a national residential school young people aged 11 to 19, who are blind or vision impaired.
Our aim is to provide the highest standard of education for our learners, outstanding residential care and a welcoming and inclusive environment; where our students can thrive, blossom and prepare themselves for a life of independence when they leave NCW.
About NCW

At NCW, there are many things that are similar to any mainstream Secondary School.
We teach Key Stages 3, 4 and 5 the national curriculum; core subjects and a full and diverse range of options for GCSE and A-Level.

Every student has a tailored programme, carefully planned and delivered to meet their individual needs in three key areas; academic achievement, independent living skills and involvement in extracurricular activities at the College and in the community. The National curriculum timetable is interspersed with additional curriculum lessons in mobility, Braille, access technology and independent living skills.

The opportunities provided to students in these three areas of provision play a crucial role in the development of confidence and self-esteem, and preparation for life beyond our College.

Learner Outcomes

At NCW we are working towards eight key learner outcomes which will underpin an individual’s successful transition into further education, work and becoming an independent and fulfilled member of their community.

These eight learner outcomes are:

  • Independence and negotiation skills
  • Life after college
  • Meeting others
  • Participation
  • Getting Around
  • Learning to Access
  • Use of equipment
  • Self-care

Having links to local organisations like the Kidderminster Harriers, Worcester Warriors and Waitrose helps NCW students work towards many of these goals.
