The Mount Camphill Community, situated in East Sussex, is a small Specialist Further Education College offering day and residential places for students aged 16–25 years with moderate to severe learning disabilities.
Residential students board on either a 5 day/night basis or a 7 day/night basis, 38 weeks per year. Residential students have exeat weekends (6 per academic year) returning to parents, families or respite on these occasions.
The Mount's 3 year college programme comprises of 3 curriculum elements – craft, movement and independence skills. Crafts include foundation crafts in art, clay work, felting, basketry and candle dipping, as well as courses in the garden, bakery, pottery, cookery and weavery workshops. The movement curriculum involves daily sessions throughout the week in Bothmer gymnastics and games, Eurythmy movement, tennis and swimming. The independence skills curriculum encompasses sessions in life skills, work skills, functional skills and personal development, securing accreditations as appropriate to their ability. Numerous work experience opportunities both internal and external are in place.
The Mount provides a therapeutic environment with in-house speech and language therapy and occupational therapy input and students receive SaLT and OT as part of The Mount's core provision. Additionally, holistic therapies of art, massage and music are available to all students throughout the year.
